Your Inner Life, the Most Important Thing
Of course your inner life is the most important thing for you. Other people may see what you do, what you wear, and what you own, but God sees inside you, and that is what really matters.
But how do you get your inner life sorted out so that God is pleased with what He sees in there? Every Christian knows that reading the Bible is an important part of the answer, but sometimes we need a bit of extra help.
Thomas à Kempis
Thomas à Kempis understood all this, and millions of Christians have found his writings extremely helpful. Amongst Christians, his work is the most popular thing after the Bible.
His series of four little books have been published countless times, translated into numerous languages from the original Latin. They are almost always bound together under the famous but slightly misleading title “The Imitation of Christ”. The downside is that reading this stuff can be quite hard work, especially as the translations are often just too literal.
Worth listening to!
Listening is much easier, and better still when you are listening to a paraphrase in good, natural spoken English without any footnotes or precise scripture references to distract you. It’s just like having old Thomas just talking to you in a conversational sort of way.
